Peter A. Sarkos, DO, FAOAO, is an attending faculty member at Rowan University Medical School and an integral part of the orthopedic residency program training new physicians at Inspira Health. He was trained under renowned hand surgeon, Kirk Watson, MD, Dr. Sarkos can help patients suffering serious hand and wrist pain.
Dr. Sarkos was inspired to pursue the field of orthopedic hand surgery through his family. Both of his grandfathers lost fingers in construction accidents, inspiring him to help others with similar injuries. In Dr. Sarkos’ words, “Watching them both live and work around such a significant lifestyle change inspired me and made me want to help others in similar situations.” He helps patients with painful hand and wrist conditions overcome similar disabilities every day.
Dr. Sarkos credits joint replacement of the fingers as the greatest recent advancement in hand and wrist surgery. “Joint replacements in the fingers interests me because patients can sometimes regain full function and motion with limited impairment and no pain.” The advancements of joint replacements in the fingers allows patients to go back to sports, work, or their hobbies quickly after surgery. Dr. Sarkos is known for his comforting, patient and helpful bedside manner.
