About Dr. Fitzhenry
Laurence N. Fitzhenry, MD, is board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Fitzhenry then performed his surgical internship at the Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. He then went on to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts where he completed his residency in Anesthesiology and fellowship in Pain Management. Dr. Fitzhenry was elected by his peers and staff to act as a Chief Resident in Anesthesiology at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center.
Dr. Fitzhenry works with patients to help alleviate chronic pain and get them back to their activities of daily living. He specializes in non-operative treatment options of the neck and back pain as well as treating pain traveling into the arms and/or legs. He also deals with chronic back pain as well as abdominal pain. Dr. Fitzhenry uses a variety of procedures to help alleviate pain specializing in performing epidural steroid injections for the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. He performs sacroiliac joint injections as well as radiofrequency ablation for neck, back, knee, and hip pain. For patients who are not good surgical candidates, Dr. Fitzhenry specializes in spinal cord stimulation to help alleviate pain and improve quality of life. These treatment options help alleviate patients chronic pain and helps people return to a more active lifestyle. These alternative treatments for chronic pain can help a patient decrease needs for opioids and avoid or delay spinal surgery or provide relief if surgery is not an option. Overall, Dr. Fitzhenry helps patients maintain a comfortable pain-free lifestyle. After reviewing your pain and test results (x-rays, MRI, etc .. ) Dr. Fitzhenry will discuss your treatment options and tailor treatment options to meet your individual needs.
Dr. Fitzhenry performed additional training as an Orthopaedic Spine Research Fellow at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he published numerous articles and book chapters in the orthopaedic literature. Such examples include an article on The Surgical Management of Thoracolumbar Injuries featured in the Journal of Spinal Cord Medicine, Instrumentation and Treatment of Cervical Degenerative Traumatic Disorders, published in Current Option in Orthpaedic as well as an article on Nucleus Pulposus Replacement, An Emerging Technology that was published in the Jefferson Orthopaedics Journal. When Dr. Fitzhenry is not in the office or performing procedures, he can be found lecturing on the latest innovations with respect to pain management.
